There's one problem with generalist where they fall to the level of the context surrounding them. They limit theirselves to satisfy the tasks requested, the outputs demanded and people's expectations. They forget they did bigger projects, more challenging tasks and more difficult goals. They forget they can bring their experience in form of unexpected solutions and complimentary skills to the team. They forget they can lead being themselves and not trying to be someone else, just to fit, just to learn, just to convince themselves they can fake it 'till make it'.
